Habitat's Head of Design shares top pieces that instantly change a room
1 June 2026

“Transforming a room doesn’t always require a full redesign - often it’s the smaller, more considered updates that make the biggest impact. At Habitat, we’re always looking at how colour, texture and shape can subtly shift the mood of a space, whether through layered lighting, tactile textiles or expressive pattern. If I’m ever unsure where to begin, I start with one characterful piece - a bold cushion, textured wool rug or sculptural lamp - and build the scheme out from there. Pieces like our much-loved Checkerboard Trinket Tray or Margo Selby Cushion are great examples of affordable, yet stylish accents that lift any corner of the room.
For 2026, we’re seeing a move towards warmer, more expressive interiors that still feel functional and easy to live in. In smaller spaces especially, pieces need to balance practicality with personality. I’m particularly drawn to versatile updates like statement bedding, ambient lighting and compact outdoor furniture that can instantly refresh a space while still feeling timeless and design led.”
