Habitat launches homeware collection in collaboration with Sebastian Conran

The new collection has been created by Habitat's in-house design team in collaboration with Designer in Residence, Sebastian Conran.

The Designed by Sebastian Conran range features dining and cooking essentials, including a series of cleverly designed utilitarian accessories that prioritise function and minimalist forms. Nesting, stackable and foldable capabilities allow for maximum flexibility whilst also being satisfying to use. Materiality is crucial too, and each piece has been carefully considered, whether crafted from glass, 100% BCI cotton, cork, wood or porcelain. ​ ​

The new collection is available in selected Sainsbury’s stores and online at habitat.co.uk and argos.co.uk, with prices ranging from £3-£45.

The Designer in Residence programme has seen Sebastian Conran bring his extensive talents to the 28-strong in-house studio, advising on craft, innovation and new product concepts, as well as contributing to exclusive collections which celebrate outstanding British design as part of the brand’s 60th anniversary this year. Offering beautiful, quality homeware that is accessible and affordable, Habitat is celebrating 60 years’ of great British design in 2024.

With innovative function, the solid beech wood toast rack is easy and effortless to use. With serving at the centre of the designer's intention, the toast rack catches crumbs with its clever grooved inner, and can fit different sizes of bread. A multipurpose design, it can even double up as a letter rack or desk tidy.

Expertly crafted from solid beech wood, the cookbook stand is an essential countertop piece. Flat folding, it saves space and can be stored easily in a cupboard or bookshelf. The woodwork is etched with handy cooking measurements for further practicality and assistance in the kitchen.

Lightweight and simple in design, the stacking glass tumblers are a must-have for day-to-day dining. Classically shaped and delicately crafted, each glass is hand-blown with a wide rim and contoured base for ease and comfort with use.

Ideal for entertaining, movie nights and kids playdates, the chip and dip multi-serve set combines a porcelain bowl with a natural beech wood lid, and three pots perfect for dips, olives or crudités. Cohesively slotting into one another, the set provides a space saving solution and a simple yet stylish snacking centrepiece.

The solid beech wood chopping board is the perfect balance of both function and style. It houses a hidden compartment with a stainless steel tray so that chopped food can be transferred straight to the pan, as well as saving time with tidying up scraps and peelings that the board's curved edges prevent from spreading.

About Sebastian Conran Studio 

Sebastian studied Industrial Design Engineering at Central St. Martins, where he gave the Sex Pistols their first booking and designed the record sleeves and posters for The Clash. After working at corporate identity consultancy Wolff Olins and leading hard-goods development at Mothercare, in 1986 he founded Sebastian Conran Associates design studio, which he continues to lead.

In 1999 he merged his studio with his father’s to become Conran & Partners, working with some major projects such as designing the interior of Concorde, cars for Nissan and a range called By Conran for Sainsbury’s.

Sebastian has taught furniture design at the Royal College of Art, lectures frequently, judges many international design awards (Audi, D&AD, Design Week, Dyson, Red Dot, RSA, etc.) and has written several books, articles and papers on design. An active member of many bodies, Sebastian has worked with many design and educational institutions.

Based in West London, Sebastian Conran Associates studio-workshop is a product design and development studio that focuses on creating charismatic retail merchandise and user experiences that are contemporary, innovative and satisfying.
