Habitat announces exclusive home and furniture collaboration for AW24 with iconic British brand, Morris & Co.

The collection shines a contemporary light on the timeless heritage of designs by William Morris

Habitat has partnered with Morris & Co. to launch an exclusive collection of homeware and furniture inspired by the timeless heritage of designs by William Morris, brought to life in thoughtful and contemporary designs created for today’s homes. The collection comprises a series of furniture and accessories carefully crafted in oak, marble and glass, designed to sit alongside the iconic artworks from the Morris & Co. archives that feature across new fabric accessories and upholstery.

“Collaborations continue to be an exciting way for us to explore new styles and design movements so that we can bring a breadth of design-led products that appeal to our customers, and their many different homes. Our partnership with Morris & Co. is an adventurous one that has allowed us to combine their heritage and craftsmanship with our product design know-how to create a novel and unique collection.”
Hannah Mallett, Director of Product for Habitat

Habitat’s design studio was particularly inspired by Red House, the home of William and Jane Morris, as well as the extensive Morris & Co. archives, conceiving an array of handcrafted furniture and lighting, from elegant oak spindle chairs, to a statement mango wood table with a decadent solid marble base. These herald a spectacular blend of traditional Victorian aesthetics and modern-day luxury accents.

The collection also includes a series of upholstered furniture and accessories featuring iconic prints and patterns from the Morris & Co. archives, including Sunflower and Strawberry Thief. The prints and patterns have been produced  in bespoke scales for modern-day homes, and appear across luxuriously frilled cushions, sumptuous cotton bedlinen, lighting and fragrance.

"The enduring inspiration of Morris & Co. is brought to life in this collection by the series of tactile materials and finishes that feature. Utilising traditional craftsmanship and joinery, from the solid oak furniture to the fluted glass doors of the cabinet, every design detail has been carefully considered."
Andrew Tanner, Head of Design for Habitat
“Design is at the heart of everything that Morris & Co. does, and this is why we feel so connected to Habitat, as we both share a passion for great design.

As the original Morris & Co., we have been crafting and making for over 160 years. For this collection, we delved into our cherished archives to create products that are true to Morris & Co.’s values, honouring and upholding our legacy and that of the Arts & Crafts movement.

As masters of colour and pattern, we have reimagined these archival treasures in fresh and contemporary ways for this exceptional collaboration, revealing designs that perfectly balance the aesthetics of both brands. The resulting collection is an example of collaboration in the greatest sense – a true meeting of design minds.”

Claire Vallis, Sanderson Design Director

The collection of 150 pieces will be available from September 2024 in selected Sainsbury’s stores and online at habitat.co.uk and argos.co.uk, with prices starting from £5.

About Morris & Co.

As a political theorist, publisher, environmental campaigner, poet, and outstanding designer, William Morris (1834–1896) was one of the single most influential figures of the nineteenth century, founding Morris & Co. (originally Morris, Marshall, Faulkner & Co.) in 1861. Under his direction, the company grew into a flourishing and fashionable Arts & Crafts decorating business, renowned for wallpapers and textiles, becoming part of Sanderson & Sons in 1941.

Today, the Sanderson Design Group builds on that proud heritage with the inventive reimagining of Morris & Co. classics, ever upholding the impeccable standard of craftsmanship that has defined all Morris & Co. products since inception.

Guided by the creative intuition of William Morris, designs are inspired by treasures in the Morris & Co. archive, which houses historical logbooks, samples of each wallpaper, printed and woven textiles and original wooden printing blocks.

With the ability to faithfully transform a space into an Arts & Crafts haven, through evocation of the glorious drama and wonderment in nature, the authentic archival documents and designs of Morris & Co. continue to inspire interest and insatiable demand to this day.
